How does the cream work?
In the first days after birth1 and when the baby is teething, many breastfeeding mothers experience increased nipple sensitivity and soreness1. This may be due to incorrect positioning and/or attachment1 or the change in the baby’s saliva when teething, which causes nipple tenderness and dry skin. Medela Organic Nipple balm combines the nourishing and moisturising properties of Olive oil with the soothing calming properties of calendula to provide natural relief to sore nipples and dry skin in breastfeeding mothers.
Does nipple cream help with pain?
Please note that the Organic Nipple Balm is not licensed as a medical product for pain relief or designed for the therapeutic treatment of pain. If you are experiencing breast pain or other health problems, please seek advice from your medical practitioner. The Organic Nipple Balm is formulated to provide natural relief from nipple soreness and dry skin.
When should I apply nipple cream?
Use the Organic Nipple Balm at every feed to relieve soreness, moisturise, and protect your nipples and skin. There is no need to remove the balm before breastfeeding or pumping.
How much do I need to use?
The practical airless pump makes it very hygienic to dispense a drop of balm which is all you need to apply on your nipples. The airless pump provides a hygienic, precise and controlled application of balm.
The 7g tube with it’s angled applicator dispenses a pea sized amount to clean fingers to apply to the nipples.
How do you apply the cream to your nipples?
Wash hands prior to use. Apply a pea-sized amount to the entire nipple area after each feeding or as needed. No need to remove before breastfeeding.
Can the Organic Nipple Balm be used in combination with a lanolin cream?
Yes, when there is no history of allergy to lanolin the mother can choose either product for sore nipples and dry skin.

The Organic nipple balm has been formulated with only 4 organic and vegan ingredients: Olive Oil, Avocado Oil, Candelilla wax, Calendula. Our all-natural formula is dermatologically tested, hypoallergenic and suitable for sensitive skin.
Is the cream safe for my baby? Does it need to be washed off before breastfeeding?
The organic nipple balm is safe for your baby and doesn’t need to be removed before breastfeeding or pumping.
How does it smell/taste?
The organic nipple balm has been formulated without artificial fragrances, it doesn’t taste or smell, the baby won’t even notice it!
Does the cream have side effects?
The organic Nipple Balm does not contain other additives that might cause a reaction. Additionally, it’s hypoallergenic and dermatologically tested. If allergic reaction, skin sensitivity or irritation occurs, discontinue use immediately and seek medical advice.
Does it stain?
Natural oils may leave grease stains on fabric, should that occur, treat it as you would with other grease stains. It is recommended to protect clothing.
What is the consistency like?
Lightweight, non-sticky and non-grainy the product texture is easy to apply and spread, making it a breeze to use in hospital, at home or on-the-go.
What other purposes can the cream be used for?
The Organic Nipple Balm can also be used on chapped lips and dry or sensitive skin of both children and adults.
What is the expiration date?
The shelf life of Medela Organic balm is 3 years. Once opened it is recommended to use the product within 6 months.
